The first post-election episode of “Saturday Night Live” will be hosted by comedian Bill Burr with musical guest Mk.gee on Nov. 9.
Political buffs hoping for a name that’s been closely tied to the election can look forward to the show’s Nov. 16 episode featuring singer Charli XCX, whose “Brat” album became an unofficial anthem for the Kamala Harris campaign over the summer. The British popstar will also host that week’s episode.
“SNL’s” final show before the election has been booked for a while. Actor John Mulaney and musical guest Chappell Roan will perform this Saturday.
The program will likely include political humor. The show’s 50th season has already featured alumni Maya Rudolph as Democratic candidate Harris and cast member James Austin Johnson as Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Booking Burr to host the first post-election show marks the end of a short-lived tradition. Funnyman Dave Chappelle was tapped for that gig after Trump was elected president in 2016 and hired again to do the first show after Biden defeated Trump in 2020. He recalled the 2016 appearance marking a challenging return to television after a 12-year hiatus.
“I do remember the gravity of the week,” Chappelle said in an “SNL” retrospect. “I understood what it meant, but I didn’t understand what it felt like to so many people.”
